Thirty-six teams, one hundred and forty-four players, and fifty-five volunteers and community businesses gathered on Thursday, September 11th for the 2nd Annual Community Heroes Golf Tournament. The day had a beautiful sunny sky with a few clouds, a change from the constant rain earlier in the week. Friendly challenges were issued and picked up. The atmosphere was hopeful for a hole-in-one on the 12th Hole, to win a new car from O.C. Welch. No lucky winner this year. With high energy and high hopes the players started for their first hole after a magnificent opening ceremony with a bag piper playing amazing grace after the combined Police, Fire, and Sheriff honor guard presented the colors. The end of the opening ceremony and the start of the tournament was signaled by the Chatham County helicopter doing a fly over.
